City Nature Challenge 2019 Staten Island's Boletim

This project is a part of our City Nature Challenge NYC Battle of the Boroughs umbrella project (link here).

A City Nature Challenge Information Table will be set up at Greenbelt Nature Center on Friday, April 26 (time to be decided). Come check it out and make observations nearby.

700 Rockland Ave., Staten Island

The Greenbelt is a 2800 acre oasis of natural areas, featuring nearly 35 miles of hiking trails, nestled in the heart of Staten Island. The Greenbelt Nature Center, which opened in June 2004, is a gateway to the Greenbelt, offering trail maps, guided hikes, public programs, class trips, events, and private parties, serving over 20,000 people a year. Jessica R. Kratz is the coordinator of the Greenbelt Nature Center and loves to introduce visitors to the wonders of the forest, particularly the amphibians that appear near our vernal pools each spring. The CNC info table will be operating to help any visitors with questions about how to use iNaturalist to participate in the City Nature Challenge.

A City Nature Challenge Information Table will be set up at the High Rock Challenge 10 K trail race on Saturday, April 27. Come check it out and make nearby observations before or after the race or while cheering on the competitors. The race starts and ends at Henry Kaufmann Campground 1131 Manor Rd. Staten Island. High Rock Park itself is located at 200 Nevada Ave., Staten Island. More details will follow.

There will be a Family Nature Walk hosted by the Freshkills Park Alliance some time on Saturday, April 27 at 350 Wild Ave., Staten Island. Details will be posted here as they become available.

I will be hosting an iNat meet-up on Saturday, April 27 at 10 am at the southernmost parking lot of the Great Kills section of Gateway National Park. Experienced iNat-ers and newcomers welcome. I will help anyone set the ap up if needed. We will meet and then explore separately (or together, as you like) for about an hour then come back to share what we've found. I will be coming in from NJ, so if you'd like to carpool, comment or message me. -Sara

I will help set up the iNaturalist ap if needed. We will meet then explore separately or together (as you wish) for an hour or so, then meet back up to share what we've found. I will host an iNat meet-up on Monday, April 29 at 10 am at Ocean Breeze Park. Meet at the corner of Benton and Mason Aves. (Staten Island), where there are three parking spot and nearby on street parking.
