Results

Congratulations Staten Island! Despite having only 35 observers (less than half as many as Queens, the next most active borough, and 1/6 the number of folks observing in Manhattan), we went from dead last last year to third in both categories this year!

With 4,666 observations we beat both Brooklyn and Queens. We also increased the total number of observations ever made in Staten Island by a whopping 35%!

We also saw 126 species that had never been recorded from the borough before. We had a total of 626 species, beating both Brooklyn and the Bronx.

We attracted 62 people who had never identified anything in Staten Island before, and 12 of our 35 observers (1/3) had never observed in the borough before, either.

New York itself came in 12th out of 159 cities in the challenge, with four observers (three who observed in Staten Island) in the top 15 worldwide.
