Growing up, my dream job was to become a taxonomist, move to the Amazon and live in the trees, identifying and learning about new critters and plants daily. In college I majored in organismal biology and chemistry, eventually giving up the idea of being a modern Swiss Family Robinson and settling down to suburbia to raise a family. Now, after much grad school (in chemistry technically but specializing in biophysics and molecular biology), I'm a high school science teacher (chemistry, physics, biochemistry, biology) and my love of observing nature, identifying new things and learning about them has been rekindled by our yearly school BioBlitz challenges. I have a particular fascination with insects and am finding a love for smaller plant specimens and lichens. Finding rusts, leaf miner trails and galls excites me too. Favorite cub scout activity - the one foot hike.
