Webster Conservation Area

I went on a nature walk on Saturday to the Webster Conservation Area. It was a beautiful fall day, so I really enjoyed being outside. All of the leaves are changing, and it wad really nice. I was worried about finding invertebrates and did have some problems finding them. They can be hard to photograph because they are so small and can fly away. I saw some insects that I couldn't get a photo of. Once, I started looking more closely and specifically in more moist dark areas, I started to find more insects. I took a picture of an insect in a web at the beginning when I was struggling to find any insects. It was interesting because I saw many spiderwebs but never saw a spider. I also saw moss with the sporophytes on top which was unrelated to the theme but was cool to see. My favorite thing I saw was probably a centipede like insect but I'm not sure what it was exactly. Overall, it was a nice afternoon! I also put in a picture that I took of a really cool looking insect that I saw on upper campus randomly when I was walking to class.

Nantucket Island: Plants

I went to Nantucket Island for fall break. There is a lot of protected land behind my house, so I mainly walked through there but also walked along a path not far from my house. I saw a large variety of plants which was exciting, because I was a little worried about finding diversity. Seeing the diversity in the small area where I walked alone, showed me how wrong I was. It was especially interesting to see all of the different types of trees. There was not very many flowers around, but I think that has to do with the time of year. Overall, it was very successful and informative. This is unrelated to the plants, but a deer ran right past me which was pretty crazy and scary because I have never been that close to one before. Overall, it was a nice time for reflection and observation.

Houghton Garden

This Sunday, I went to Houghton Garden. It was a warm, sunny day. I went around 6 pm when it was a little cooler. It was the perfect day for a nature walk. It was a nice time to relax and reflect after doing homework for hours. I saw lots of flowers which are my favorite things to see. I am not super familiar with the different types of flowers, so I just put the general tag of flowering plants. In addition, I saw a variety of trees specifically pine trees. I saw a chipmunk and a squirrel and some birds, but it was hard to get a clear pictures, so I couldn't document any of those observations. I also saw a mushroom. It was easy to make observations because everything was wild. I'd say that it was a successful first nature walk.
