Εν μέσω καραντίνας δημιουργείται η ευκαιρία να "ξεφυλλίσουμε" τα παλιά μας αρχεία φωτογραφιών είτε μέσα από φωτογραφικά άλμπουμ, είτε το ηλεκτρονικό μας αρχείο και να βρούμε είδη τα οποία μπορούν να βοηθήσουν την επιστημονική κοινότητα στην προστασία τους.

Η πίννα (Pinna nobilis - fan mussel) είναι το μεγαλύτερο δίθυρο της Μεσογείου. Μπορεί να βρεθεί μόνο στη Μεσόγειο και πλέον ο πληθυσμός τους κρίνεται σαν Κρισίμως Κινδυνεύον.

Θα θέλαμε να μας αναρτήσετε παλαιότερες αλλά και νέες φωτογραφίες του είδους όπου το έχετε βρει, είτε ζωντανό, είτε νεκρό σε παραλίες με πληροφορίες για την περιοχή όπου βρέθηκε αλλά και την ημερομηνία καθώς και το βάθος.

In the midst of quarantine, we have the chance
to look through our old photo albums or our digital archive in search of different species in order to help the scientific community to protect them.

Pinna nobilis - fan mussel is the largest bivalve in the Mediterranean. It can only be found in the Mediterranean and its population is now considered Critically Endangered.

We'd like you to post old and new photos of the species that you've found. With information about the location, the depth, the date and the condition in which the specimen was found ( dead or alive).

Tonna galea ή αλλιώς μπουχώνα, κοχύλα ή μπουρού σε διάφορες περιοχές της Ελλάδας.🐚 Στην καταπληκτική φωτογραφία του Christos Efthymiou βλέπουμε το είδος να τοποθετεί τα αυγά του στον πυθμένα.

Το είδος προστατεύεται από τη Σύμβαση της Βαρκελώνης και συνεπώς απαγορεύεται η αλιεία του και η εμπορία του. Μπορεί να βρεθεί σε όλη τη Μεσόγειο, τον Ατλαντικό και τον Ινδο Ειρηνικό ωκεανό. Παρατηρείται σε μαλακό υπόστρωμα όπως άμμος ή λάσπη αλλά και σε σκληρό.

Παρότι το είδος έχει βρεθεί σε πολλές περιοχές, ελάχιστα γνωρίζουμε ακόμα για τη κατανομή του και την βιολογία του στην Ελλάδα.

Tonna galea, commonly known as the giant tun, it’s also called buhona, kohila or buru in different parts of Greece.

In the amazing photo of Christos Efthymiou we can see the species Tonna galea, laying its eggs on the bottom of the seafloor.

Tonna galea is protected by the Barcelona Convention and is therefore prohibited from fishing and trading. It can be found throughout the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Indo-Pacific Ocean. The preferred habitat for this species is seabeds that are muddy or sandy.

Although the species has been found in many areas, little is known about its distribution and biology in Greece.

Ένα ακόμα #ξενικό είδος στις θάλασσες της Κύπρου καταγράφηκε - χάρη στη συμβολή της επιστήμης των πολιτών!
Οι πολίτες μπορούν να αποτελέσουν απαραίτητο εργαλείο στην προσπάθεια μας για κατανόηση των ραγδαίων αλλαγών του οικοσυστήματος μας.

🦀Καβούρι φάντασμα - Ocypode cursor - Tufted ghost crab 🦀
Ένα είδος καβουριού που το μέγεθος του δεν ξεπερνάει τα 5,5 εκατοστά αλλά η σημασία του για το περιβάλλον και τα θαλάσσια οικοσυστήματα είναι τεράστια. Η κοινή ονομασία του, αναφέρεται στον χαρακτηριστικό χρωματισμό του που ταιριάζει απόλυτα με το χρώμα της άμμου.
Λειτουργεί σαν "καθαριστής" των ακτών καταναλώνοντας νεκρούς οργανισμούς που ξεβράζει το κύμα από ζωικά μέχρι φυτικά υπολείμματα. Καταναλώνει επίσης μυρμήγκια, μικρότερα καρκινοειδή και μικροάλγη. Πρόκειται για νυχτόβιο οργανισμό ο οποίος μπορεί να κρυφτεί στην άμμο φτιάχνοντας λαγούμια και συναντάται στην περιοχή όπου "σκάει" το κύμα. 🌊 Η γεωγραφική του κατανομή περιλαμβάνει τον ανατολικό Ατλαντικό Ωκεανό και τη Μεσόγειο. Ενώ εντάσσεται στο παράρτημα II της Σύμβασης της Βαρκελώνης ως απειλούμενο είδος που απειλείται με εξαφάνιση.

🦀Ocypode cursor - Tufted ghost crab🦀

A crab maximum carapace width up to 5.5 cm with great importance for the environment and the marine ecosystem. They are also called "ghost" because of the coloration pattern that allows them to hide on sight in the sand.
Operates as a "cleaner" of the coastline, consuming dead organisms (animals or plants) that are washed ashore🧹 It also consumes ants, smaller crustaceans and microalgae.
It is nocturnal species that can be found on sandy beaches and makes burrows on the higher line where the waves crash.🌊
The species is distributed across the Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea and is included in the list of endangered or threatened species, of the Barcelona Convention (Annex II)

Τρία είδη που πολλοί συγχέουν μεταξύ τους είναι η κατουρλίδα (Sygnathus typhle), η σακοράφα (Sygnathus acus) και το ξενικό είδος, η τρομπέτα (Fistularia commersonii).

👉Η κατουρλίδα και η σακοράφα ανήκουν στην οικογένεια των συγγναθίδων και συναντώνται σχεδόν σε όλη την Ελλάδα. Η πρώτη φτάνει το μέγιστο μήκος των 35 εκατοστών και η δεύτερη των 50. Λόγω του επίμηκους σώματος τους, πολλοί τα συγχέουν με το ξενικό είδος της τρομπέτας που ανήκει στην οικογένεια των φιστουλαρίδων.

👉Η τρομπέτα ή φιστουλάρια είναι ένα είδος ξενικό που καταγράφηκε για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα το 2001. Φτάνει το μέγιστο μήκος των 160 εκατοστών και τρέφεται με μικρόψαρα, καρκινοειδή και μαλάκια. Είναι βρώσιμο.

👉Τα κύρια χαρακτηριστικά που κάνουν τη φιστουλάρια να ξεχωρίζει από τα άλλα είδη είναι το σχήμα του σώματος της, που είναι κάθετα πεπλατισμένο και όχι πλευρικά συμπιεσμένο, ενώ η ουρά της τελειώνει σε μαστιγοειδή σχηματισμό. Πολλοί δύτες έχουν αναφέρει ότι αλλάζει το χρώμα της ανάλογα με τις συνθήκες.

The following three species get people usually confused when it comes to identification.
👉(Sygnathus typhle) the broadnosed pipefish and (Sygnathus acus) greater pipefish, belong to the Syngnathidae Family and are found almost all over Greece. The first one reaches a maximum length of 35 cm and the second of 50. Due to their elongated body, many confuse them with the alien species (Fistularia commersonii) blue-spotted cornetfish that belong to the Fistulariidae Family.

👉The cornetfish was first recorded in Greece in 2001. It reaches a maximum length of 160 cm and feeds on small fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. It is edible.

👉The main characteristics(features) that make Fistularia stand out from other species are the shape of its body, which is vertically flattened and not laterally compressed, while its tail has a whiplike formation. Many divers have reported changing its color depending on the conditions.
