Welcome!

Welcome to City Nature Challenge 2019! We are so excited to kick off this event for the third year in the Greater Boston Area. This annual event takes place in Spring, with observations collected from April 26 - 29, and identifications made from April 30 - May 5.

Last year, over 65 cities were involved across the globe. Over 17,000 participants collected over 441,000 observations here on iNaturalist. Out of all those cities, the Boston Area came in 11th place for the number of observations, 14th place for the number of species, and 3rd place for the number of participants. Wow! Thank you so much to everyone who helped us reach our goals and increase awareness of urban nature.

This year, we hope to go above and beyond. With new and returning partners, more observation events, and more excited participants, I think Boston is the city to beat this year. So spread the word about the Boston Area City Nature Challenge. Together, we will learn more about the incredible biodiversity in Massachusetts and help protect this beautiful New England environment that we all hold so dear.
