Awaiting The Snow

On a gray afternoon
awaiting the snow
I fall asleep—
quiet books, a still pencil,
some empty pages
fill the dream space around me—
but then wake
to big flakes falling sideways
filling the air with brightness,
the way words can
overwhelm the mind
with their light.

A short simple walk in the late afternoon. A thickly overcast day, the trees, the animals, even the landscape itself quietly awaiting the evening snow.
