Welcome to the 2020 NYC City Nature Challenge Project Page!

It's time to start planning for the 2020 CNC! We are so excited to be participating in the City Nature Challenge for the fourth year! Last year we had AMAZING results with our Battle of the Boroughs (see: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2019-new-york-city and ) and this year we're hoping to do even better! Join us April 24-27, 2020!

In the time between now and the event, we'll post things of general interest here like iNaturalist trainings and new educator resources. Closer to the event, we'll use this page to post updates about CNC events in New York City. During the event, this page will be where you can see our results roll in. You don't have to join the project to participate, but if you join now, you will get notifications when we post something. We recommend that you join!

If you are interested in hosting CNC events with your group, visit our information page here: https://eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu/citynaturechallenge/

Right now, you can check out the main CNC site here: www.citynaturechallenge.org. This site features an educator tool kit for integrating the challenge into the classroom. There are multiple grade bands to choose from and some basic introductory resources. Find them here: http://citynaturechallenge.org/education-toolkit/

Monday 27th at 7:30 am -- an intertidal marine and estuarine beachcoming/tidepooling event right here in Manhattan! Super convenient!

Meeting up a short distance north of the 103rd Street footbridge on Randall's Island. Featuring RI and NYC leaderboard person Susan Hewitt, and anyone else who wants to come. (Yes, it is very early in the day, but it is the biggest low tide of the CNC weekend.) We will start on the more southerly beach, which usually has rich biodiversity for beachcombing, and then a RIPA staff member will drive us up to the more northerly beach, which has more sand, and more rocks to roll, to find critters underneath. Please let me know if you plan to come. I will be there, even if it is pouring with rain. I will give people my cell phone number so you can find me easily.

After low tide is done, I will probably stay on the island and continue iNatting in the woods and saltmarsh, etc. Anyone is welcome to join me for that, but let me know.
