Being outside has always made me happy inside! Even as a child I preferred being outdoors and have always been curious about animals and plants as well as bugs, spiders, snakes, and all living things. I am a native Texan who grew up in an outdoor-loving, camping family. My parents - especially my dad - encouraged my love of nature.
I also love to read, write, and share what I learn with others. I earned a BA in English with a minor in Journalism prior to earning an M.Ed in Educational Counseling and. taught high school English for many years before becoming a high school counselor. When I retired after 25 years of working in public education, I could hardly wait to become a Master Naturalist.
Becoming a Texas Master Naturalist and a Texas Master Gardener continues to open new worlds of knowledge and fascination.
