I guess I've always been a naturalist. My dad got me out in nature when hiking meant carrying me on his shoulders. Growing up I could frequently be found catching and releasing snakes, box turtles, frogs, crayfish, and salamanders in our suburban NJ backyard, random patches of forests and state parks. Nowadays, I share my love of nature with my family by taking them hiking, sea-kayaking, and backpacking. As often as I can, I lead students tours of the inter-tidal zones as a volunteer naturalist at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve (FMR); and volunteer on inter-tidal research projects with the California Academy of Sciences. And everywhere I go I bring a camera so I can enjoy "capturing" wildlife with minimal impact.
