Current emphasis: I want to document wildflowers and plants (and some introduced) on the Salt Trail, a trail that spans 8.5 miles between Glade Spring and Saltville, Virginia. I am also cataloging some trees and many birds for the list.

I study what I see to learn what is there, from the walks near my home (which still has some wildflowers growing in parts that are more like the wilder mountains) to farther afield, mostly in the Appalachian mountains but sometimes the coast of SC or mountains of NC or perhaps parts of Colorado. My favorite wildflower is Bloodroot, and I am always trying to learn something new as I walk, but what I often find myself studying carefully is the wild violet. I hope to see as many varieties as come before me. I also try to find wild orchids if they are blooming nearby or if somebody alerts me to some I can drive to.
