Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos)

This Northern Mockingbird was feeding on an abundance of lady beetles at the site. It picked the grassy edge of the street curb to hunt and from a distance of 10-15 meters away from us it jumped up and down from the street curb (where the grass was thick and the lady beetles were easy pickings) as it grabbed and consumed its prey. The NOMO worked its way toward us and literally came right up to where we were located. This image is the last in the series that resulted from this encounter.

Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus)

A Great-tailed Grackle foraging on the mowed part of the grass captured a large moth. In Image 1 it opens its beak for the final pincer movement and in Image 2 we can see that it has succeeded in capturing its prey.
