several of these jumping spiders observed all on large Xanthorrhoea semiplana
Found in plant samples from a trip to the Erye pennisula. Unsure where it came from..
female Possible member of Saitis ? undocumented? Similar to Saitis mutans described in Peckhamia 103.2, at same site several similar female jumping spiders noted in same environment , but with quite varied patterns, which is also similar to described in Peckhamia 103.2.
Female Probably mutans, last shots show epigynum
Female, last shots show that apparently they can take ants as prey.
Red-sand Jumping Spider (Grayenulla sp)
I'm really not very sure of my id, it's just a suggestion.
One of the diagnostics of this genus is that the 3rd legs are longer than the rest. This lady certainly has that trait.
She was a strong jumper and the 3rd legs were always tucked in, like a spring ready to pounce :-) When tucked in the 3rd legs were higher than the rest and you can measure on the screen on the last photo to show the rest of the leg is also longer than the rear.
Body is a bit large for the genus though, but she may be gravid/just dined.
The head shape & eye sizes seem about right.
Possibly an undescribed genus.
Medium sized jumper, about 10mm. Would love to know the species of this jumping spider!
