Road strike. I didn’t see the actual collision, but I think it happened right before I arrived. I saw feathers blowing in the wind and turned around thinking I was going to collect a road kill specimen. Once I got back to it, I realized it was still alive. I threw a towel over it and got it out of the road. I could feel its heart pounding through the towel. I expected it to die before I could get it to Austin Wildlife Rescue which was about two hours away. I stopped in Lockhart to check on it, and it was still breathing. At 3:23p, we were at Wildlife Rescue, and the bird was alert. Second photo taken at Austin Wildlife Rescue. Fingers crossed for a successful recovery!
