I included the first photo because it gave more of a feeling for just how small this clubtail actually was. It was working the sandy edge of the road at Turnbull.
Because a plant obscures the last segments this is kind of a case of "trust me" when I say that there was yellow on the sides of S7-S9 (bright yellow).
bluish facial skin noted... barely visible here. Seen much better through scope
This Alligator was a male and it was just chilling in the water. It looked like it just finished a big meal.
Anybody have information on this coat pattern? I know it’s a color morph, but just melanism?
Found in small stream with some rocks/rubble and silt, near bank in about 6 inches of slow flowing water, under some debris. The only other Etheostoma species known from this stream is Tessellated Darter, which is eliminated by head and mouth shape. Other close contender is Swamp Darter, which is not known from this stream, while Carolina Darter has been recorded here.
