Found Trailside between mature (~100 year old) Douglas fir forest uphill, and alder filled valley downhill. Mixture of ferns and huckleberry in the area. Found chanterelles (formosus) and Russulas with 20 feet as well.
Immediate scent on harvest was fresh cut pumpkin. Within an hour, scent changed into a green-apple jolly rancher. Over the next 3 days, gradually shifted towards tomato paste scent.
New species for me and my truffle pup
Tan, pale off-white to light brown-gray peridium, 2 partial lobes, dry irregular texture. Gleba light brown-cinnamon brown when cut, turning to darker brown, then very dark brown after exposed. in dry soil barely under surface. Under mixed conifers, aspen, ponderosa pine. 9050 feet. Odor of mild pleasant radish.
Microscope shows spores that are long, oval and contain 1-2 internal objects (maybe oil droplets)- this does NOT seem to match Identification photos from other sources... will wait for DNA sequencing results.
Very strong, pleasant, fragrant odor of peach/candy/bubblegum when sliced open.
Smells like Leucangium carthusianum. Associated species, dense canopy Pseudotsuga, scattered Polystichum understory
Found under Ponderosa Pine in squirrel digs just under thin duff layer.
Firm like a Tuber. Likely immature. No noticeable odour.
Dug from the earth approximately 4 inches deep. Very rich earthy familiar smell, specimen saved
This one is for the D. sisters! I immediately wished for you to appear when this showed up. Genus is my best guess. 3 people gave these odor comments: intense mushroomy, cocoa powder, sweetish.
Very faint undertones of Hysterangium. Overtones of fruit, but mild. Delightful blue-green staining.

Habitat = small shrumps (4) occurring just above a large debris pile from some young trees that have all fallen in one area. One truffle had mold growing on it and grubs eating it. The other three were solid, no mold.
Scent when fresh = grape soda on a pan fried steak sitting on a rubber mat in the sun.
No UVF observed
Microscopy (2023.10.01)
Spores - round, rough with thick wall, ~up to 32.5 um in diameter, brown
Asci - 8 spores, 250 x 33 um,
paraphyse - swollen tips. 110 x 12 um
tissue was tough. Attempted water mounting, but everything was bound so tight I couldn't see individual structures. KOH mounting and then squishing allowed me to separate asci and paraphyses
p3 12-8

Found already decomposing so odor unreliable. Definite “rot” overtones.
Spore pics taken when well-rotted (accidentally left unrefrigerated/dehydrated).
