This observation is for the bird making the fast, insistent chirruping sound. Under its call, you can hear another, harsh, rather scratchy call, which is in this observation by itself: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/179937970
I think a bird is making this harsh, scratchy sound that's coming from tree tops along a creek.
An unseen bird gave a shriek that sounded like a bird of prey, so I turned on my video in case it called again. Instead, it flew overhead, so I got to see it. These photos are screen snaps from the video. It didn't call again. I was on the bottom of a drying creek bed, next to a fairly large pool. The bird flew out of trees right next to the creek and landed on the other side just past the pool.
Eggs in a 3 to 4 inch wide nest in a hanging basket of fake plants on a townhouse porch. The bird is small but definitely larger and bulkier than a hummingbird. I’ve only seen the bird (brown) as it flies away when the door opens or someone comes up the walk.
Many square meters of tiny white flowers, in a vacant lot kept mowed short.
Earliest first-of-season sighting (by 8 days) of Anemone berlandieri on my property since I began keeping track in 2002.
