One of the largest plants seen - stems c. 1 m across. This one growing above an active titi (Ardenna grisea) burrow in loose, friable soil with sparse Malva arborea.
A pair of pitpits lurking behind haraheke and the coastal astelia.
Uncommon epiphyte on stems of Dicksonia fibrosa.
Sighting and photos (c) averil.
Field Notes - Linining a tidal stream
Mature tree. Podocarp/broadleaf forest.
Mangroves fringing tidal creek at the head of Te Matuku Bay.

This little creature was an exciting find when the rock was turned over as we thought we had found a native bee. After a good 1/2 hour of taking photos we moved on. Then @cbeard realised it was the yellow paper wasp :(
Common. Really like this plant and the way that the yellow adds splashes of colour around the serpintine scrub and rock gardens.
I think this is a sedge as @cbeard taught me "Sedges have edges" LOL
