I usually find these in Ceanothus or service berry (Amelanchier spp) but this one was on pine grass and sticky geranium.
This is a fall on a juniper I found this summer, didn’t know what it was so I took a picture of it!
An web-like structure with a few caterpillars and lots of eggs
These look like the galleries of the western balsam bark beetle, found on subalpine fir. There were also several beetle exit holes on the bark of several subalpine fir.
This was found on a blue spruce, and seems to he a cocoon of a tussock moth. The cocoon is very similar to images I found online of tussock moth cocoons. What was left of the Caterpillar (it was being eaten by some form of wasp) seemed to match the hairy, orange look of tussock catepillars
Insect with two wings landed on my hand and flew away.
Found in a ponderosa pine. Unsure about the species, but I hope it's not zimmermani. The pitch masses on the trunk could be where the caterpillar gestated.
