Distinguishing characteristics: Broad, flattened, but thick blade that grows in a cluster. Single blade is longer and wider than the stipe. Red-purple to brown colour and iridescent in water.

Distinguishing characteristics: Thallus composed of succulent, ‘noodle-like’ cylindrical branches that taper towards their tips (apically) and towards their branching point (basally). Tapering best visible in photo 1. Dark red/reddish-brown coloured seaweed.

A group of non-filamentous, upright brown tubes that are shorter than 50 cm. These individuals are shorter than 50 cm, are not mucilaginous, and constricts along the length of the tube at intervals.

A red, epilithic undivided and unbranched papillate blade with spines and abundant cystocarps. Stipe, midrib and veins were absent. No bleach smell or gland cells present.

A single, thick, smooth brown blade larger than 3 cm with a regular outline that lacks veins, growing directly from a small, disc-like holdfast without a stipe.
