This snapping turtle was in a fight/mating yesterday and now has many leeches in its back legs with what looks like small maggots. It was sitting in the sun all day I assumed to rid itself of leeches but looking closer I’m thinking it was wounded from the fight. There were flys all over it. I left it alone and in the afternoon it went back into the pond. I’m questioning if I should try to check the wounds next time I see it or just let nature do it’s thing.
