Blister beetle on Kniphofia
The Kniphofias flowered late this year, but was still visited by several blister beetle species. This one was observed on a Kniphofia flower in biennially burned grassland, close to a thicket clump growing along a stream.

beetle was cutting the petals off, not sure why, maybe it was eating them and the middle tastes better than the margins? still, it seems inefficient, why not just eat the middle out but keep the petal on the flower? you can see one of the petals on the ground.
