Adriana's Journal Entry - Fungi

I observed a chaga mushroom in Mount Royal. Interestingly, chagas have been used for many years by humans for several purposes. The fungi was first used as traditional medicine to improve one's immunity and overall health by drinking it as tea (the mushroom was grinded up). Although it is yet to be proven, some indeed believe that this mushroom can be used as an anti-inflammatory, to lower blood sugar levels and cholesterol, as well as to prevent and fight cancer. Overall, research on chaga must still come a long way before its supposed medicinal purposes be used since "no human studies have been conducted to determine its safety or appropriate dosage" (Brown, 2018).
