Pajarito Open Space offers a picturesque walking trail around 20 acres of South Valley farmland with scenic views of the west mesa. This property, true to its name little bird, is wonderful for bird watching and has a number of tables and benches and a shade structure for picnics. Pajarito Open Space is part of Bernalillo County’s efforts to support local agriculture. The property was once owned by the Beck family who managed a small dairy farm. Today, another local dairy farmer grows grains on the property for his cows while twenty-five percent of the property is set aside for wildlife. The walking trail also has a number of interpretive signs that talk about the area’s history including a focus on wildlife, vegetation, agriculture and human settlements.
