Gondwanan Relictual Moist Refugia Indicator Species (GRiMRI'S) is a Friends of the Porongurup Range project funded by the Government of Western Australia's National Resource Management.
The Porongurup Range is an extremely ancient mountain range formed a very long time ago - 1200 million years ago in fact. It is often claimed to be the oldest mountain range in the world but what we see today is merely the bare bones of what was once a much more substantial range.
The range has seen many changes; ice ages have come and gone, sea levels have risen and fallen and climatic conditions have shifted many times over, and yet, there are some incredibly enduring fauna species that have managed to cling to life on board their Porongurup Range ‘life raft’ for many millions of years………………
