The purpose of this project is to document worldwide the variety of species found in gardens and balconies, whether native or introduced, wild or cultivated.
The purpose of this project is not only to invite new people to join the iNaturalist community but also and mainly to invite people to reconnect with nature.
Research grade observations would be extremely valuable and would help
- assessing the variety of introduced or cultivate plants;
- document urban and rural biodiversity;
- document the contribution of balconies and gardens in supporting biodiversity;
- document invasive species.
Data submitted to this project could so be further used for research purposes via The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)
To contribute to this project, you can submit new or old observations provided these are taken outdoor and
-
contain a picture with accurate position (max 100 m radius);
-
are taken outside on balconies or gardens and not more distant than 100 m from the habitation;
-
are flagged as wild or cultivated when documenting flowers and plants.
If you are not a naturalist, the community on iNaturalist can help identify your observations!
