RESULTS UPDATE!

498 SPECIES! WOOOOO!

All the paper data have been entered and checked and compiled with the Research Grade iNat observations (as of 10/9/19). We’re still waiting on some results, but at last count, we found 498 species this year! That puts this year up with our top blitzes for species count (Central Park still has the record at 571 species). This year, we almost tripled our top observation count in iNaturalist! GREAT JOB EVERYONE! Thanks to all of our team leaders, volunteers, and iNaturalist identifiers for your help with this effort!

All BioBlitz data are now available for download at this page on our BioBlitz site: https://eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu/bioblitz/2019/10/15/2019-green-wood-cemetery-gowanus-canal-bioblitz-data/ I can tell you right now that the species number is already higher because I just saw a couple of new Research Grade iNaturalist observations pop up. I’ll probably give the iNaturalist community another two weeks and then update the results on this page again. From this page, you can download the complete Excel spreadsheet of 2019 data (iNaturalist data plus all of the data recorded on paper), maps, previous BioBlitz data, and additional files like a list from NYBG’s digitized herbarium records for Brooklyn. There is information on this page and/or in the files themselves that explain what you are looking at. Please send me any questions you might have.

As a reminder, if you are teaching a course and want to use these data in it, there are suggestions on the BioBlitz Tools page of the Science Forward OER: https://eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu/scienceforward/course-materials/bioblitz-tools/ (Please pardon the look of the site as we are in the process of updating it)
