I’m not sure I’ve seen too many caterpillars out roaming around in early January in this part of Vermont. It’s 42°F today and we’ve had warm weather—above freezing—for the last 4 to 5 days. I am not sure what this is, but what a surprise just now. Please help with identification.

Following last night’s light snow, I saw evidence of animal activity on my dock adjacent to the lake. Upon close inspection, I observed a fish head (bass?). Based on the size of pattern on the dock & the uneaten fish head this is almost certainly an otter. A few minutes later, I saw an otter out on the ice several hundred yards away.
