Found growing on a small open area next to a fallen log. About 2 ft tall, dried up and had some more of its kind growing near it. Near the end of the pathway along the edges.

Leaves were scabrous, chordate leaf shape, serrated edges. Couldn't find any samaras but the tree was found growing near the edge of the preserve.

Seeds were dark in color, some have lost their lemon taste. Debated on Rhus copallina but didn't see any characteristics of the winged sumac.

Tiny glands near the base, bark isn't of that of Prunus serotina, leaves more ovate and serrated. Possessed some thorns on multiple branches.

Surrounded by many chinkapins, pecans, and smaller plant species.
Leaves have already fallen since we last saw it sadly.
