All observations were made by Adam Schneider and Susan Fawcett, and specimens were collected of many of these species and will be deposited in the Jepson Herbarium at UC Berkeley. All observations were made in the vicinity of Slide Ranch, the first few to the north, along Highway 1 near the border of the GGNRA and before Mount Tam State Park, and the following 44 or so from along the trail beginning at the Muir Beach lookout headed towards Slide Ranch from the south. Because of the drought, there was a lackluster display of native wildflowers, but we did document many weeds! The highlight of the day was a bobcat near Slide Ranch that was ostensibly checking out the newborn lambs. The GPS locations seem to be way off, probably due to poor reception and the inherent shortcomings of georeferencing by smart phone. None of these observations were from San Mateo county as the records would suggest.
It seems unlikely that this is the endangered serpentine endemic, Castilleja affinis subs. neglecta, but I don't have material in hand, and I am not sure what it is.
This seems like an early bloom. We only saw one individual in flower.
Very distinctive odor, and glandular. If this ID is correct, it would be a new record for Marin County and the San Francisco Bay Area. I believe Adam Schneider collected it and plans to deposit it at the Jepson herbarium.
Slide ranch---under Monterey cypress. 30 feet from trail.

Susan, if you want to correct the coordinates, view an observation and click "Edit" at the top. From there you can drag the map marker to the right location.
Geolocation varies quite a bit depending on the device, proximity of cell towers, and GPS satellite interference from trees or the landscape.
Thanks, Kueda!
I have begun doing that, though it becomes quite a task with many observations.
Cheers,
Susan
Is there a way to batch edit location data?
Yup. From http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/scheuchzeria you can click "Batch Edit", check off the ones that you want to edit, and click "Edit batch." From there you'll have some tools to apply changes to the observations you selected as a group. You can also zoom the map on http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/scheuchzeria and click "Redo search in map area" below the map to only select the ones that have weird coordinates.
