Econlockhatchee Sandhills Preserve, Orange County, Florida

A phantom crane fly, with its black and white banded legs, gracefully floated past me, a mere 12 inches from the ground.

A tipulid crane fly pulsated back and forth seemingly bounded within an imaginary jar just 5 inches wide, an uncanny habit that puzzles me. Every behavior in the natural world seems to have a purpose, yet this one eludes me.
