Arcata Marsh - February 17, 2019

At around 1:30 I met my partner in front of the J and we left campus. We got to the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Refuge via South I Street. We arrived at the Marsh at 1:36 and started to make our way towards the oxidation ponds. The sky was clear and there was little wind, it was chilly. At 2:03 we reached the avocet observation point by Oxidation Pond #1. We were not able to see any avocets but were able to see a lot of ducks and a couple of egrets. As we made our way around Oxidation Pond #1 to get to our tree the wind picked up. At 2:33 we arrived at our willow tree and filled out our observation sheet. When we got to our tree there was a black duck (which is apparently called a Coot) resting on one of the many branches that are immersed in the water. As we made our way back to the parking lot there was a flock of at least 100 geese that flew over us, they looked to be canadian geese. At 3:15 we left the Arcata Marsh and arrived back on campus at around 3:32.
