Asian lady beetle (Harmonia axyridis)

Today I published a post on my blog about the negative effects of the Asian lady beetle, introduced as a biological control against aphids.
My suggestion: Maybe the best way to control aphids, is to realize that a few aphids on your roses are a small price to pay to hear birds sing….

Descrição

The Asian lady beetle (black variant) is not native in Europe, but has been introduced for the destruction of aphids. However, it has been multiplying at an asthonishing rate, and is now threatening our native ladybugs (they even eat them).
This species is very variable, but can be recognized by the white spots on the pronotum that are larger than in other species, and the smal indentation at the backend.
