INTRODUCTION

  • Non Venomous
  • Bronzeback snakes are found throughout India and SE Asia.
  • Have excellent vision and a gyroscopic head to catch frogs & birds.

IDENTIFICATION

  • Long, slender body with a wide bronze stripe along it's body and yellowish white belly.
  • Flat head, large round pupils, usually a stripe across eye and white spot on top of head.
  • Has bright sky blue interscale pattern displayed when threatened.
  • Grow to 4 feet on average.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT

  • Very common throughout India.
  • Inhabits forests and human habitations with lots of trees.
  • Usually found in the open on trees, dense bushes and rarely hide.

DIET AND BEHAVIOR

  • Mainly feed on frogs, lizards and small birds too.
  • Diurnal and Arboreal, use vision and fast locomotion to hunt.
  • Alert and very quick to escape, regularly jump in trees at large heights.
  • When threatened, inflates neck and displays blue interscale pattern.
  • Usually non-offensive, may strike to bite if not handled properly.
