Welcome

Hello everybody, thankyou for starting to upload your flora and fauna data to the Owlthorpe Fields iNaturalist project. Every month in the summer I shall download all the data and upload it to Nature Counts so it will ultimately be added by the Wildlife Trust on to the National Biodiversity Network’s database (NBN Atlas). All this data is then used by ecologists nationwide to inform national policy decisions about nature and the environment. More importantly the NBN Atlas is searched by Ecologists when carrying out surveys for developers during the planning application process.

I'll probably download the data less frequently in the autumn and winter as there will most likely be less sightings. In the mean time keep uplodaing and enjoy yourselves using it because if nothing else it is a useful tool for identifying the beasties that you do not recognise (which is a lot in my case).

I'll also try and keep everyone updated on here and nag you if there aren't many submissions. Also is something very special is spotted I'll share it with everyone.
