Hancock BioBlitz: 19-21 August 2022

If other iNat users in the region have a free day this weekend, consider participating in Hancock's first-annual bioblitz this weekend! All observations submitted within town between Friday, August 19th and Sunday, August 21st are automatically collected by this project. Our collective goal is 500 species, with 50 new additions to the town list of 1,645 species.

Looking for a new place to explore in Hancock? Check out these Town-owned properties or go for a hike on Harris Center trails.

Could use clarification about which are town owned lands aside from the 5 highlighted areas and Harris Center. What about Powder Mill Pond?

That was fun, exploring a place I'd never been before! Thank you for inviting me!

Thanks for asking, @lpagano ! Powder Mill Pond is certainly publicly accessible, with cartop boat launches at Elmwood Junction, in Bennington just north of the Hancock town line, and in Greenfield along Forest Road just east of the covered bridge over the Contoocook River.

Other than the five Town-owned places displayed in the Hancock Town Lands project, there are properties owned by the State, SPNHF, and other organizations: Carpenter Marsh Wildlife Management Area, Eva's Marsh Wildlife Management Area, Welch Family Farm and Forest, and McGreal Forest. Lake Nubanusit also has a boat launch in Hancock, where Bald Eagles, Common Loon, and larger fish species are present and thus far undocumented for the bioblitz.

Hey, it was only an hour's drive - I often drive farther than that in my home state. So many cool places to visit!

Hey, you said "All observations submitted within town between Friday, August 19th and Sunday, August 21st are automatically collected by this project." Does that mean you'd like them all uploaded by end of day Sunday or can the observations done on the weekend upload within the next few days? Thanks!

@tmomeyer Thanks for asking! I'll wait about a week before making writing the final bioblitz summary, as this will allow observers more time to submit photos/audio and more time for identifiers to help with IDs.

Thanks for your contributions so far! We can all aspire to make our photography as good as yours.
