• 7:00 PM - Program FORAGING – IT IS IN YOUR DNA by David and Melodee Eishen – Texas Master Naturalists

When we go to the grocery store don’t we look for the freshest and most nutrient dense fruits and vegetables? Where did we get this skill? The freshest and most nutrient dense fruits and vegetables may be waiting for us just outside our door.

David and Melodee Eishen will begin our journey into the world of foraged food that is free, local, nutrient dense, and ecologically responsible. David and Melodee live on a small farm in the East Texas countryside where they raise cattle and ducks, and grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables for their personal use. They can often be seen foraging for wild foods at home and from nearby roadways. Together they teach a variety of classes related to forgotten skills on food foraging, preparation and preserving.

Melodee was raised on a 300-acre farm where gardening and foraging, followed by canning and preserving was an everyday occurrence. Her education includes a Master’s Degree in Consumer Science (formerly known as Home Economics) and is a retired teacher. David, retired director of the Energy Efficient Green Building Institute, has learned how to “cook from scratch” including the preparation of nutrient dense whole foods.

Indian Trail Chapter is part of the statewide Texas Master Naturalist Volunteer Program of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

· 6:00 PM - Business Meeting
· 7:00 PM - Program by Larry Norris – Master Composter

Join us for an in-depth lesson on composting at home, led by Larry Norris, an avid member of many area organizations who has received awards in this field from Master Composter of the Year in 2007 & 2016 to Volunteer of the Year for the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling. Larry is a member of the Native Plant Society, Cross Timbers Master Naturalist Chapter, President of the Fort Worth Rose Society, and is an instructor at the annual City of Arlington Master Composter Workshop. Larry also teaches backyard composting classes once a month where he walks students through the compost site and provides hand-on compost pile building demonstrations, teaches a vermicomposting course during the Master Composter workshop, and volunteers at the local greenhouse. Larry has dedicated his time and energy to the Arlington Master Composter Program for over a decade and without his passion and commitment, that program would not be as strong as it is today.
