Engaging for a Good Cause: Sophia's Story and Why #BugsR4Girls

Scientists, particularly those involved with nonapplied or “basic” science, are often asked to justify the broader impacts of their work, or more acutely, how they and their work contribute to society. Migratory Birds

The Pacific Flyway for migratory birds encompasses the western United States (from Alaska to California and parts of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Arizona), western Canada, and Mexico. Millions of birds make the trek every year from the northern areas of the flyway in the fall and winter and back in the spring.

Birder’s Eye View: One good ‘tern’ deserves another.

The terns that normally visit our coast come in three sizes — large, medium and small. The largest is the Caspian tern, followed closely by the royal tern. The mediums include Sandwich, gull-billed, Forster’s and common. In the “small” category we have black and least.
