Favorite places in Los Angeles/Orange counties (CA) for high insect/plant diversity?

I figure that many people who have a chance at seeing this post may live around here (or at least be familiar with the area), so I was curious as to what some of your favorite local spots are for wildlife diversity. I don't need the best hike in the world, I don't need spectacular views, I just need lots of bugs :)

Spots with high numbers of potential psyllid host plants, like Cercocarpus, Ceanothus, or Arctostaphylos, are a bonus, of course.

I have been meaning to go to the arboretum in Arcadia. It just seems like it must be a good place to go. The Fullerton arboretum has been pretty good luck for me.

This weekend has been crazy nice in the Angeles National Forest. I am debating going for a second day in a row. Higher elevations should hold good conditions for a few more weeks.

The Pacific Crest Trail is just cool. More a pretty trail than place to find bugs but I am sure it has lots of bugs..

Regional parks have been working well for me for bugs recently. There are a ton of them. Since I usually am dragging kids those are easier for me to interest them in.

I saw you had some cool stuff from the mountains yesterday. Is that area worth checking out for a 60-90 min drive to get there?

Well, I saw Mountain Mahogany, Manzanita, and Ceanthus today. So it has that going for it.

I just now played with a search in places. http://www.inaturalist.org/places/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=los+angeles&commit=Search

You might want to play around with that.

In my experience, there are a lot of spots in the W. Santa Monicas with good plant diversity (Topanga or the canyons in Malibu -- but really, any canyon linked up to Mulholland west of the 405 is decent).

I go to the Arboretum in Arcadia relatively often, but never really looking for bugs (just for family stuff or plant sales) - it would probably be really productive for other things, but not for native shrubs. They are more focused on plants of the world than natives.
