I am co-founder of the Australian Rainforest Conservation Society Inc. and President since its inception in 1982. My husband, Dr Keith Scott, and I have a strong interest in World Heritage and were commissioned to prepare the successful World Heritage nominations for the Wet Tropics of Queensland, the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, and Fraser Island. I served as a Director on the Board of the Wet Tropics Management Authority (1990–1997) and Technical and Scientific Advisory Committee member of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area (2007–2019).
My academic record includes a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Queensland researching enzyme active-site chemistry. I was appointed an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland, and currently serve as Adjunct Research Fellow at Griffith University .
I head an ecological rainforest restoration project at Springbrook, Queensland, (2005–2028). This is a collaborative partnership with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service aimed at restoring, linking and protecting a core rainforest refugium to be added to the Gondwana World Heritage Area. Associated with this we conduct biological surveys to further document the outstanding biodiversity of this area (plants, animals including invertebrates, and fungi. Details can be found on our website (www.springbrookrescue.org.au) and image portal (www.uncoveringgondwana.smugmug.com) with a major section on moths.
We established a curated plant herbarium for pressed specimens from the Brigalow Belt and South-east Queensland, including Springbrook, recognised by the Queensland Herbarium. I belong to several professional associations including the Queensland Entomological Society and ARCS hosted their 2017 BugCatch Weekend. We also host visits by local and international entomologists including Paul Brock (London Natural History Museum 2016, 2017), Dr Ladislav Bocak (Palacky University, Czech Rupublic, 2014) and a team from CSIRO (ANIC) led by Adam Slipinski (2017). All have helped immensely.
