Growing up in Northland, New Zealand, I was always well-connected with the natural world. And it was a logical progression to plan for a career working with nature, after studying conservation management, applied science and freshwater ecology.

I am passionate about conservation biology. My work is centered on the ecology and biological monitoring of streams and rivers, and the identification of freshwater invertebrates. My research interests span all natural history aspects of freshwater invertebrates, particularly mayflies, dragonflies and stoneflies, and the methods used to monitor their populations and conservation status. With almost two decades working with aquatic insects I have also developed an interest in their regional taxonomic and genetic differences.
