Documenting and protecting Earth's Biodiversity is my life mission.

I am reclaiming the title of 'Naturalist' to modern scientific usage. I take a systems approach to understanding the world around me, with a strong belief in the importance of field-based natural history informing ecological understanding and conservation. I am developing a system for scalable, broad-ranging biodiversity monitoring which will help communities, project managers, and investors assess the impact of restoration and conservation projects.

Some topics of particular personal interest for me are cichlids, tropical frogs, soil fauna, paleoecology, plant parasites, cloud forests, alpine ecosystems, and the incredibly varied flora and fauna of the Hawaiian Islands.
