I am a Ph.D. student at UC Merced, where I am studying fungal ecology in the Sierra Nevada foothills - I am working on a number of fungal metabarcoding projects: fungal endophyte communities in Blue Oak and Interior Live Oak - how do they differ, how do they change between sites and over time? How do Cynipid Gall wasps impact fungal endophyte communities in Blue Oak leaves? What fungi (particularly truffles) do the Big-Eared Woodrat consume in the Sierra Nevada foothills and how do they play a role in spore dispersal? I am also building a local database of fungal ITS sequences from my region of the Sierra Nevada foothills to supplement my fungal metabarcoding projects being conducted in the same region.
