My husband and I (Alison) are retired plant ecologists, specializing in invasive species, from the University of Florida who are now slowly sailing around the world (we left FL in 2008). We bird-watch and snorkel whenever we get the chance. As often as possible, I complete reef fish surveys for https://www.reef.org/ (using a simple abundance scale). The users of iNaturalist have been really helpful when I am not quite sure about an identification. We are usually moving so often that it is difficult to get to know the local species well but with the pandemic, we are having a marvelous opportunity to spend extra time in Australia. Seeing reefs damaged by coral bleaching has been heartbreaking, however, so it seems even more important than ever to keep track of the tropical fish to follow the impacts of global climate change.
