I only got the one chance, and only for a minute - so happy with the result. Since these moths are migratory (fly to EU/UK in summer), I had plenty more chances to observe these awesome creatures - we do not have anything like this back home in NZ.

Macroglossum stellatarum (Hummingbird hawk moth / Moro-sphinx / Sphinx colibri) drinking nectar from a lantana flower (in flight). Although taken next to a butterfly house, these were only present wild. Hunawihr, Haut-Rhin, France.
My previous photo of this species was taken in its native Morocco. This specimen, as with others I saw all over France, has arrived as part of its migratory behaviour during the summer (they migrate from Africa to all over Europe).
