Tubifera ferruginosa s.l.
Pseudoaethalium: sessile on a spongy hypothallus, ovoid, 6.3 mm (l) x 4.2 mm (w) x 3.3 mm (h), pale orange-brown when collected, becoming dark violet-black and sclerified (never fully matured, with fungal infection). Sporothecae: fused, mostly elongated-cylindric, straight or slightly curved, 0.8-1.7 mm tall x 0.3-0.4 mm wide, tips adhering, slightly convex, somewhat irregular crescent-shaped. Capillitium not seen. Peridium amber-brown to hyaline in KOH, verrucose with larger rounded protrusions or cysts, 8-15 µm diam. Spores: (5.4)5.8-6.6(6.7) µm, faintly reticulate with 7-9 meshes. Habitat: on decaying wood covered in bryophytes, high elevation conifer forest. Like Tubifera ferruginosa s.l., but spores smaller (5.8-6.6 vs. 6.4-7.3). Probably didn't develop enough to identify.
