Observações de simonbradley

Two Song Sparrows seen. One was chasing after the other. They were surprisingly quick and continued this display (or fight) for about 3 minutes until they both left the area.

The Pileated Woodpecker was noticably larger than the Downy Woodpeckers I had seen previously in the area. Was pecking at a large White Pine for about 20 minutes.

The American Robins were plentiful. Six total were observed, both on the ground and in low branches.

Saw him running characteristically upside down a large tree trunk.

Got very close to this Downy. He was hoping around, exploring a honeysuckle pecking at the bark but not staying on any one branch for too long.

Spotted hanging around the shallows. It was so still I couldn't really see it until it took off in a low flight across the water to the other side of the pond.

1 adult male and 1 adult female hopping around a small sugar maple. Actively singing.

5 Mallards seen today, 1 adult male, 1 adult female, and 3 juveniles.

American Crow seen flying overhead. Only 1 today.

Beautiful Blue Jay seen in a small Sugar Maple on my walk back. Usually when the Blue Jays seem to dart around and call often but this one seemed pretty docile. It didn't move from its perch once.

Three Blue-headed vireo active in a small poplar tree. It seemed as though the two larger ones were engaged in a fight!

Fat American Robin contrasting well with the snowy ground. Very active, scurrying around an open pastor picking at the snow.

A male and female Wood Duck floating around a tiny pond.

A single Red-tailed Hawk could be seen from above. Still have yet to locate the nest.

3 mallards were seen flying over head, heading in a Northeast direction.

As I was leaving the site, a Common Grackle made a clear call indicating it was close by but I could not see it.

Black-capped Chickadees were the only species that were seen in great numbers today and gathered when spishing. 8 were seen.

I was unable to spot it, but there was one very loud grackle near by. I tried looking but couldn't find it although it made its presence known.

12 American Robins were spotted, all on the forest floor.

3 Killdeer. All were on the ground and went unnoticed unless they were approached.

5 Black-capped Chickadees were observed. Less active in terms of song/call than in previous observations.

Crows are plentiful in the area. About 10 were counted and others were heard East of the oberservation location.
