Pileus 4-6 cm broad, convex to plane, dry, finely subtomentose to barely subvelutinous, dark brown to cocoa brown (6F7-6, 6E7-6), becoming areolate with age. NH4 - a blue green flash then light lavender. Flesh white, staining pale blue then grayish fuscous to dark gray. Lamellae decurrent, subdistant, sometimes with anastomoses, up to 1 cm broad, bright yellow (2A7-6, 3A7-6), staining blue green when bruised, with even to uneven edges. Stipe 4-5 cm long, 8-15 mm broad, equal, usually curved, dry, white, subpubescent to matted subtomentose, slowly brownish gray from handling, with interior white, solid, staining pale blue green then dark grayish fuscous; basal mycelium white. Flesh white, slowly dull pinkish tan with exposure, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnexed, white when young, light grayish yellow (4B4) then darker grayish yellow (4C4), slowly staining dingy reddish with bruising, with pores likewise, deep reddish bluish with NH4OH. Stipe 4-7 cm long, 5-10 mm broad, equal to subclavate and then tapered at base, dry, black, reticulate nearly to base, dark grayish to brownish near base, white at base, with interior white, slowly pale to dull pinkish tan. Spore print reddish brown. Spores violet bluish in KOH.

Flesh yellow to pale yellow, unchanging, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnexed, bright lemon yellow, not staining, with pores less than 1 mm broad, bright lemon yellow, unchanging. Stipe 2-5 cm long, 1-2 cm broad, clavate to subbulbous, with a subtle taper at base of bulb, dry, pale yellow and finely matted above bulb, finely squamulose (as in pileus) below bulb, intensely chrome-lemon yellow at base, developing some red stains. [N.B.- similar to Veloboletus limbatus material from Qld, but not bluing and lacking marginate bulb]. Unpublished LSU, rpb1, rpb2 sequences BLAST to Veloboletus.

Stipe 4-6 cm long, 1.3-1.8 cm broad, equal, dry, finely scabrous, pale lilac with pinkish brown to pinkish lilac scabers, darker below, with interior mottled pale lilac in areas with light brown, with some apparent light brownish orange staining. Apparently whitish at base, but with too much sand to determine color.

Tubes white when young, soon pinkish brown (8D4), unchanging, depressed to deeply depressed around stipe; pores concolorous, not staining, up to 1 mm to 1.5 mm broad. Stipe 4.5-8 cm x 6-10 mm, equal, strict or curved, white with alveolate reticulate ridges, the latter white above, viscid below and brownish from gluten and handling, white at base with white rhizomorphs. Stipe 4-5 cm long, 6-9 mm broad, equal and slightly expanded at base and then tapering to a blunt point, yellow at extreme apex, then red overall and subpruinose, white at base, with interior yellow cyanescent, solid. Vaguely reminiscent of B. obscurecoccineus, but is cyanescent.
