maybe?
This tree has a trunk c.25cm DBH, dense branching from about 3m high on the trunk, and reaches about 8mH. Branches are drooping and smaller ones are somewhat pendulous.
Did not pay a lot of attention to the abundant woody capsules at branchlet tips, or the linear tough eaves, as was focused on finding hidden moth plant pods, but would be useful to have a name for the tree too, if that is possible from these blurry shots.

In dense dry compacted clay bounded by concrete and used by pedestrians.
Either one of the few survivors of a planting, or a later adventive.
Only other plant growing in this bed is large clumps of Agapanthus roots, with little foliage.
Leaves all reduced to reddish-brown mucronate basal sheaths. Stems very fine, could be empty, almost empty, or interrupted; couldnt see clearly enough to confirm. Seeds pale dull brown, c.2mm long.
Have a handful of dry flower heads to examine when time permits.

vine rooted beside a juvenile mapou about 1mH. The madeira vine was twining up the mapou, and had two tuberous formations near the top of the mapou, joined by a slender segment of vine. Is this aerial tuber formation on a very young vine? Another possible interpretation is that this vine was uprooted from nearby a year or two ago, or in the last year, and thrown over this mapou so it would not touch the ground and might dry. Experimental, since I monitor this site frequently and there is little understorey to hide weeds. Conclusion: Madeira can probably send aerial roots to the ground from a tuber about 1cm D (since I have never found a larger tuber on this site)
All material including two fragments of ?tuber or vine about 2mm long, were removed offsite to a jar of water for monitored rotting

under Erythrina x sykesii primary stand, currently in full leaf with overhanging branches suppressing these ti kouka, but they are growing annually since release in Hune 2019 from extensive honeysuckle which covered all the area seen here
Tradescantia has been reduced annually to release seedlings but the grpund is extremely dry under the flame trees, so few seedlings survived. With some humus beginning to build up, and after a wet year, Tradescantia is now being piled, releasing the first seedlings, a few new ones, and the potential for a new crop this autumn
