Descrição

Four small apothecia on a rib of a maple leaf. Found alongside 'Cudoniella' clavus, Mitrula lunulatospora, and an unidentified myxomycete. Apothecia very small, but difficult to measure; apparently mature. Ascospores long, running the length of the ascus, folding upon discharge or disarticulating into part-spores. Ectal excipulum brown in contrast to the white hymenium, composed of textura globularis-prismatica. Asci 8-10 µm wide, I+, spores 1.4-2 µm wide.

Descrição

Small brown-headed sporulating stage of a slime mold(?). Found growing along with 'Cudoniella' clavus, Mitrula lunulatospora, and Vibrissea sp., localized on the edge of a portion of a maple leaf. When crushed, the "head" is shown to consist only of spores and some thin, dark strands. Spores spherical, ornamented, 7.0-7.7 µm in diameter.

Paraphyses septate, inflated above, projecting somewhat beyond the asci, µm at the tip, contents extremely cyanophilic. Spores broad ellipsoid, containing two primary guttules, but also with multiple additional guttules in living state, with minute punctate ornamentation, 18.9-20.3-22.1 × 12.8-13.5-14.1 µm. All measurements in living condition.

Descrição

On fallen needles of Pinus strobus, growing only on the outer surface of the needle-bundle, with frequent zones of demarcation between colonies. Asci ~105 × 11.5-13.0-14.0 µm(), ~112.5 × 12.4-13.6-14.9 µm(†), without(?) croziers, J-, but contents dextrinoid in Lugol's iodine after KOH pretreatment (not tested without). Spores long, filiform, 68-84.5-98 × 2.0-2.5-3.2 µm(), 61-86-105 × 1.7-2.0-2.4 µm(†), rounded at one end and pointed at the other, coiling or curving after being shot out of the ascus, apparently coiled in the ascus. Coiling of spores means that measurements of length are most likely underestimates. Paraphyses curved, slightly inflated at the tips, 2.7-3.5-4.3 µm wide(*). Stromatic margin with more or less globose cells.

Descrição

Foung growing on hardwood (Quercus, Acer) leaves in a boggy wet area alongside an unidentified slime mold, Mitrula lunulatospora, and Vibrissea decolorans. Fruit bodies were largely scattered, not occurring in groups of more than two. Fruit bodies apparently largely immature, as only a few asci bearing spores were found; most asci were empty or contained only the vacuoles/guttules typical of immaturity. Paraphyses sometimes forked, tips filled with guttules, staining distinctly dextrinoid in Lugol's Iodine. Some photographs show what appears to be a fine incrustation on the exterior; it is unclear whether this is a true feature, as it was observed on some asci as well, and in areas with heavy bacterial presence. Asci inamyloid, with croziers, ~120 × 7.5-8.0-8.2 µm (possibly immature). Spores 8 per ascus, hyaline, oblong-fusiform, single-celled, 11.8-12.8-13.5 × 3.0-3.9-4.5 µm (spores outside of the ascus). All measurements taken in living condition.
